Abstract
C. G. Jung contended that the work of the ancient Western alchemists was a metaphor for the process of individuation, and that the three colors, black, white, and red that the alchemists reported seeing in their vessels—termed after their Latin alchemical equivalents, nigredo, albedo, and rubedo, respectively—represented stages of psychological development. This contention was empirically tested and corroborated in the author’s 1992 dissertation on the colors in her dreams over a 14-year period, and further corroborated in the sandplay clinical material of a woman whose off-and-on therapy spanned 22 years. The treatment included three stages: Phase I (nigredo to albedo); Phase II (albedo to rubedo); Phase III (nigredo to the Sacred Marriage of the albedo and rubedo). This article is an expansion of Dr. Lynne Ehlers's “Beyond the Alchemical Black, White, (Yellow) and Red: Journey Toward Wholeness via the Sacred Marriage” published in this Journal. The author also presented on this theme at the 26th International Society for Sandplay Therapy Congress in Jerusalem, Israel.

Zusammenfassung: C. G. Jung behauptete, dass die Arbeit der antiken westlichen Alchemisten eine Metapher für den Prozess der Individuation sei und dass die drei Farben – Schwarz, Weiß und Rot – die die Alchemisten in ihren Gefäßen sahen, nach ihren lateinischen alchemistischen Bezeichnungen nigredo, albedo und rubedo benannt, Entwicklungsstufen der Psyche darstellten. תקציר: ק.ג. יונג טען שעבודתם של האלכימאים המערביים הקדומים הייתה מטאפורה לתהליך האינדיבידואציה, וכי שלושת הצבעים, שחור, לבן ואדום שהאלכימאים דיווחו שראו בכליהם - שנקראו על שם מקביליהם הלטינים, ניגרדו, אלבדו ורובדו - מייצגים שלבים בהתפתחות פסיכולוגית. טענה זו נבדקה ואומתה באופן אמפירי במחקרה של הכותבת מ-1992 בנושא הצבעים בחלומותיה במשך תקופה של 14 שנים, ודרך חקירה נוספת של חומר קליני של מטופלת אשר הטיפול שלה נמשך ונפסק על פני עשרים ושתיים שנה. הטיפול כלל שלושה שלבים: שלב ראשון (מניגרדו לאלבדו); שלב שני (מאלבדו לרובדו); שלב שלישי (מהניגרדו אל הנישואין הקדושים של האלבדו עם הרובדו). מאמר זה הינו הרחבה של המאמר של ד"ר לין אהלרס: "מעבר לשחור, ללבן (לצהוב) ולאדום: מסע לקראת שלמות דרך הנישואין הקדושים" שפורסם בז'ורנל זה. הכותבת הציגה את הנושא הזה גם בכנס הבינלאומי של משחק בחול בירושלים, ישראל.

Jung argumentava que o trabalho dos antigos alquimistas ocidentais era uma metáfora para o processo de individuação e que as três cores – preto, branco e vermelho – que os alquimistas relatavam ver em seus recipientes, conhecidas por seus equivalentes latinos nigredo, albedo e rubedo, respectivamente, representavam estágios do desenvolvimento psicológico. Essa premissa foi testada empiricamente e corroborada na dissertação da autora de 1992, que analisou as cores em seus sonhos ao longo de quatorze anos. A hipótese foi ainda mais confirmada no material clínico de sandplay de uma mulher cuja terapia intermitente durou vinte e dois anos. O tratamento incluiu três fases: Fase I (nigredo para albedo), Fase II (albedo para rubedo) e Fase III (nigredo para o casamento sagrado entre albedo e rubedo).
