Abstract
Manifestations of the Mandorla in sandplay therapy focuses on ways in which symbol has played an active role in the therapeutic treatment of two girls—one in the latency stage of development and suffering selective mutism in the midst of her parents’ contentious divorce and custody battle, and the other on the threshold of adolescence and struggling with depression in the face of secrets and gross inconsistencies among the four parents of her blended family—and a 54-year-old woman facing a spiritual challenge regarding the significant social and professional responsibilities of her work in juxtaposition with her own sense of self as a woman. All three experience the support of their symbolic work in sandplay therapy and dream work along with individual and family therapy as each of them made important healing, developmental, and life transitions.

ZUSAMMENFASSUNG: Dieser Beitrag beschreibt die aktive Rolle eines Symbols in der therapeutischen Behandlung zweier Mädchen. Klinische Fallbeispiele beschreiben unter anderem ein Mädchen in der Latenzphase der Entwicklung, die an selektivem Mutismus litt. Ein anderes Mädchen litt an Depressionen.
