Abstract
This paper is a study on the symbolism of the heart based in extensive research of different cultures. From pre-history until now the heart has been the center of different myths, religions and cultural manifestations. A relationship between its symbolism and the increase rate of heart diseases is also pointed out, reveling how a “broken heart” can also be a “heart infarct.” This paper shows that more consciousness about this relationship seems urgent and necessary to keep a healthy heart.

A Psique do Coração: Uma Leitura Analitica do Simbolismo do Coração
RESUMO: Este trabalho e um estudo sobre o simbolismo do coração baseado em extensa pesquisa em diferentes culturas. Da pre-historia ate os dias atuais, o coração tem sido central em diferentes mitos, religioes e manifestacoes culturais. Aqui tambem e observada a relação entre esse simbolismo e o crescente indice de doenças cardiacas, revelando como “um coração quebrado” pode ser tambem um “coração infartado”. Este trabalho reveala a necessidade premente de uma maior conscientização cao dessa relação a fim de ser possivel manter um coração saudavel.
