Abstract
This article is about the psychological relief work that was provided by the Chinese Federation of Analytical Psychology and Sandplay Therapy immediately after the May 12th 2008 Wenchuan earthquake in China organized volunteers who went to Sichuan. The authors and their team set up 30 work stations at Sichuan and Yushu earthquake zones and orphanages in the mainland of China. These have been named “Garden of the Heart and Soul.” In this article the authors also explore the symbolic meaning of the image of the angel which was one of the most frequently used miniatures in the thousands of sandtrays created by the traumatized survivors. Note: Correspondence author, Heyong Shen. The research project is supported by the Macao Foundation (project code: 1101). This paper is based on the authors’ presentation at the ISST 20th Congress: The Inner Beauty of Hakoniwa, 2009, Kyoto, Japan.
