Abstract
In this 6 1/2-year case study, the author/psychotherapist describes, with illustrations from 8 sandplay sessions, a transformation process of a boy he saw in his clinical practice from the ages of 4 until just prior to 11. What the sandplay portraits illustrate, sometimes with stunning detail, is the role of the father archetype in this boy’s initiation between latency and adolescence. The central narrative of the boy’s sandplay sessions centers on the story of The Lion King, a story about a boy’s tragic loss of his father and healing subsequent to painful trauma of the father’s death. This story mirrors the patient’s personal psychology and forms the subjective myth that helped him place into context the tragedy and necessary individuation involved in his inner evolution. What emerges out of the eight sandplay sessions is a portrait of healing through sandplay in the context of the Lion King story.

ZUSAMMENFASSUNG: Der Autor beschreibt den Transformationsprozess eines Jungen im Alter von vier bis fast elf Jahren.
