Abstract
This article, from a presentation given at the Sandplay Therapist of America National Conference in Chicago, 2016, examines the sandplay process of a woman at age 50. One of the themes the author explores is her patient’s alienation from her feminine instincts. The patient’s sandplay scenes activate an inner process that begins to reconnect the patient to her own deepest nature. Animals, particularly the dog and the serpent, embody and symbolize instinctual growth in her sandplay. The relationship between the serpent and the divine feminine is at the center of this transformative process. The feminine containment of dark and shadowy elements illustrates Jung’s statement that, “In the light of teleology (or the prospective aspect) the motif of containment signifies the latent state that precedes regeneration.”

Die Schlange und der Hund: Die Versöhnung der Instinkte durch Sandspieltherapie
ZUSAMMENFASSUNG: Dieser Beitrag untersucht den Sandspielprozess einer 50-jährigen Frau. Die Entfremdung der weiblichen Instinkte der Patientin werden untersucht. Sie beginnt sich mit ihrer eigen tiefsten Natur zu verbinden. Tiere (Hund und Schlage) symbolisieren das Wachstum der Instinkte in ihrem Sandspiel. RESUMEN: Este artículo examina el proceso de sandplay de una mujer a los 50 años. Se examina la alienación del paciente de sus instintos femeninos. RÉSUMÉ: Cet article examine le processus de sandplay d’une femme à 50 ans. Aliénation du patient de son instinct féminin est examinée. Elle commence à lui se reconnecter à sa propre nature la plus profonde. Animaux (chien et serpent) symbolisent la croissance instinctive dans son sandplay.
