Abstract
Turtle: Primordial Symbol of Creation, Strength, Containment & Transformation in Sandplay Therapy with Children explores biological, psychological and mythological themes as they relate to the symbol of the turtle in sandplay therapy with children. Comparison of the symbolic value of the image of the turtle and the tortoise is offered both theoretically and clinically. Jungian theoretical framework is used to discuss the psychological significance of this symbol. The turtle as a symbolic aspect of the mother archetype in its containing and supportive functions is given a special focus. The author offers three clinical examples to illustrate the symbol of the turtle in its creative and compensatory capacities.

ZUSAMMENFASSUNG: »Die Schildkröte: Ursprüngliches Symbol der Schöpfung, Stärke und Transformation in der Sandspieltherapie mit Kindern« untersucht biologische, psychologische und mythologische Themen die sich auf das Symbol die Schildkröte in der Sandspieltherapie mit Kindern beziehen. Die Autorin illustriert mit drei Fallbeispielen das Symbol der Schildkröte in ihren kreativen und kompensatorischen Kapazitäten.
