Abstract
In this article the therapeutic process of inner maturation and growth and the consequent need to shed what no longer serves the self is likened to the process of a snake shedding its skin. Reflecting on the sandplay processes of three women, the author offers perspectives on the shed skin of the snake as a symbol and also on the process of psychological shedding that takes place in the course of therapy. These clients’ presenting problems included depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, traumatic loss and lack of “good enough” parenting.

Die Schlangenhäutung: Bild von Wachstum und Erneuerung
ZUSAMMENFASSUNG: Die Autorin beschreibt die Sandspielprozesse von drei Frauen und zeigt Aspekte der Schlangenhäutung als Symbol sowie den Prozess des psychologischen Häutens, der im Verlauf der Therapie stattfindet. Diese Klienten litten unter Depressionen, Angstzustände, geringes Selbstwertgefühl, traumatischer Verlust und »good enough parenting«.
