Abstract

In this article, Linda Cunningham revisits "But is it Kalffian?" (JST, 2007). The author discusses the struggles between classical Kalffian theory and innovations in sandplay therapy. She discusses trauma theory, neuroscience, research, the COVID-19 pandemic and changes to clinical practice. Post-Kalffian sandplay arises out of necessity as the world changes and embraces the spirit of classical Kalffian sandplay rather than the rules or guidelines so familiar to us. The author continues, when we change something in a classical theory, hopefully we have been able to think and feel deeply into clinical situations from multiple perspectives.
