ABSTRACT: In this article the author examines plant life as a symbol of psychological development. The first appearance of green is the phase of the vegetative life cycle that is the focus of the paper. In nature the initial emergence of green is associated with spring and the renewal of life. Psychologically it symbolizes hope, the end of a depression, and the future. Jung taught that the plant symbolizes spirituality, and Hildegard of Bingen wrote that it is through viriditas, the greening force, that the divine is manifested in the material world. In the clinical example, green vegetation becomes the central symbol of a sandplay process. The sandplay scenes shown are those of a woman in her thirties who suffered from depression and whose symptoms included self-harm. Through her process of Kalffian Sanpdlay Therapy the opposites of the green life of the plant and the red life of blood come together in a symbolic and healing way.

ABSTRACT: In diesem Artikel untersucht die Autorin das Pflanzenleben als ein Symbol der psychologischen Entwicklung. Das erste Auftreten von Grün ist die Phase des vegetativen Lebenszyklus, die im Mittelpunkt dieses Beitrages steht. In der Natur ist das anfängliche Auftauchen von Grün mit dem Frühling und der Erneuerung des Lebens verbunden. Psychologisch symbolisiert es Hoffnung, das Ende einer Depression und die Zukunft. Im klinischen Fallbeispiel wird grüne Vegetation zum zentralen Symbol eines Sandspielprozesses. Die gezeigten Sandspielszenen sind die einer Frau in den Dreißigern, die an Depressionen litt und deren Symptome Selbstverletzung beinhalteten.
