Abstract

In this article the author tries to place Sandplay in a cultural history between ancient shamanic healing rituals and modern psychoanalysis. The contact of hands with the sand may evoke early childhood experiences belonging not only to preverbal, but also to pre-symbolic layers of the psyche.
