Abstract
Professor Ruth Bowyer Pickford lived, witnessed, and participated in the rich history of the evolution of the sand tray movement. Through her correspondence with us, she shared vivid vignettes of her own experiences and personal view of the personalities and stories of the pioneers in sand tray. Copies of her letters in this article convey the passion that these founders felt about the power of the sand tray, as well as their experiences and conflicts. Dr. Pickford’s colorful correspondence also gives a full picture of her, an extraordinarily competent and engaging modern woman. A bibliography of her sand tray publications is included.
