Abstract
From 1913, C. G. Jung engaged in a process of self-experimentation, documented in the Black Books and the Red Book, that led to a reconception of the practice and rationale of psychotherapy, through developing the procedure of “active imagination.” Critically, this placed great significance on non-verbal modes of expression in psychotherapy, and played an important role in the subsequent development of art therapies. This talk traces the development of Jung’s “practice of the image,” how he put it into play in his work with his patients, as well as its relation to subsequent practices in analytical psychology and sandplay therapy.

Jung’s Gebrauch des Bildes
ZUSAMMENFASSUNG: Seit 1913 beschäftigte sich Jung mit einem Selbstexperiment, das im Roten und im Schwarzen Buch dokumentiert ist. Dies führte zu einer Neukonzeption der Praktik and Rationelle der Psychotherapie durch die Entwicklung des Verfahrens der Aktiven Imagination, welche eine große Bedeutung auf die nicht verbalen Ausdrucksmethoden in der Psychotherapie betonte und eine große Rolle in der folgenden Entwicklung der Kunsttherapien spielte. Dieser Vortrag beschreibet wie Jung den »Gebrauchs des Bildes« entwickelte, wie er Bilder in der Arbeit mit seinen Patienten benutzte, sowie sein Verhältnis zum darauffolgenden Gebrauch des Bildes in der analytischen Psychologie und im Sandspiel.
