Abstract

The author discusses the case of a Japanese female patient in her 50s who was caught in a conflict between her Japanese identity and her Western identity and cut off from her emotions. In her psychotherapy she works toward integrating these opposites as well as inner beauty and the shadow. This paper was presented at the Inner Beauty of Hakoniwa, the 20th Congress of ISST in Kyoto.
