Abstract
Janet Tatum writes as program chair of the 4th National Sandplay Conference, “Ancient Tradition, Future Directions,” held in Asilomar in Pacific Grove, California, April 1997. Various presenters offered ideas on the far-reaching impact of sandplay therapy, in the context of cultural tradition, myth, ceremony, and ritual. Lucia Chambers, Kay Bradway, Lauren Cunningham, Kate Amatruda, Harriet Friedman, Kaspar Kiepenheuer describe their own experiences with sandplay, in the context of sand and play. The conference explored cases from the cross-cultural and the historical roots.
