Abstract

This case describes the process of a 9-year-old child through the mystery of becoming a women, with the trust and containment of the strong co-transference of a young and older woman. The author finds correlation with this sandplay process and that of object relations, self psychology, and feminist relational theory. Through drawing, the exploration of one sandtray, and talking, the author describes the relationship offering “modern-day initiation.”
