PLEASE NOTE SNOW DATE: MARCH 16-17, 2018
The following two programs are intended for mental health counselors in all settlings, school counselors, psychologists, art therapists, and pastoral counselors – mental health practitioners that treat children and adults. Participants can use these credit hours toward certification with the Sandplay Therapists of America and with the Association of Play Therapy. See below for CEU approval in Ohio and Indiana.
Sandplay is a non-verbal three-dimensional form of psychotherapy and play therapy used with children and adults. There are different theoretical methods of working with sand and miniatures. Dora Kalff created this method. Her intent is for the unconscious to be in charge of the process. In this non-directive treatment, the key to sandplay and many forms of play therapy is that the unconscious is invited to direct the process allowing the psyche to be restructured and healing to take place.

“Treating Trauma and Abuse
Through Sandplay Therapy”
An introductory to sandplay level presentation
Sat., March 10, 2018, 9:30 am to 4:00 pm
Research and experience with Sandplay therapy shows its efficacy in treating trauma and abuse. As a non-verbal, play therapy technique, it is ideal for use with children but also very successful with adults. Attending this workshop will introduce you to the powerful world of Sandplay therapy through case examples and various case vignettes which demonstrate how Sandplay helps clients resolve trauma, abuse, and developmental wounding as well as more traditional therapy issues such as depression and anxiety. The child’s world is the world of symbol so any play therapy technique is their language but also a powerful way to help adults without re-traumatizing them. Sandplay is rooted in Jungian theory and is a non-directive treatment like many of the play therapy techniques. This session will continue to define what sandplay is as well as define other Jungian terminology.
Goals and Objectives
Participants will:
*Verbalize three types of trauma that have been successfully treated with sand and play therapy.
*Be able to differentiate Sandplay from the other methods of sand tray therapy and play therapy.
* Recognize through sandpictures how using this type of play therapy approach shows a progression of improvement.
*Understand a few differences in working with adults.
*Names three symbols that may appear in a trauma process in sandplay or play therapy.
*Identify 3 elements of trauma treatment that appear symbolically in play or sand.
