Case Consultation

Applicants for Registered Sandplay Practitioner (RSP) and Certified Sandplay Therapist (CST) must seek case consultation from an STA/ISST Teaching Member (CST-T) other than the therapist with whom they completed their sandplay process. Case consultation can be either individual (one-on-one) or in a group, where one participant presents their case material each meeting. Purpose and rationale: It is assumed that trainees seeking consultation are actively practicing sandplay. The purpose of consultation is to facilitate the exploration and enhancement of one’s own clinical work. It is recommended that consultation be delayed until after the applicant’s personal sandplay process is complete or at least meaningfully underway. It is also recommended that trainees are working with at least three (3) clients per week who have engaged with sandplay on a regular basis for a significant period of time (i.e., at least 9 to 12 months). Documentation and minimum requirements: Teaching Members provide case consultation certificates of completion, which the applicant submits with their CST or RSP application. See the STA Handbook for specifics regarding the minimum hours required for each certification level, group versus individual consultation, and additional requirements for online versus in-person consultation. Case Consultation: Group & Individual All case consultation is facilitated by STA/ISST Teaching Members (CST-T). Regional Support, Training, and Groups

STA is pleased to have 12 sandplay groups across the United States. Regional groups are the heart and soul of STA since most members of STA are affiliated with a regional group, and the groups are open to all therapists. Smaller groups are essential vehicles for local community and support for sandplay therapists, and many offer an impressive array of Jungian-Kalffian sandplay trainings around the country. Each group is led or counseled by at least one Certified Sandplay Therapist – Teaching Member (CST-T). Regional Support The Education Committee of STA provides regional development and support through the STA Regional Council, representing all the groups. At each National Conference or Assembly there is a regional meeting for groups to network with each other and with the STA Board of Trustees. The Assembly arose out of a need to provide more support and opportunity for advancement to those aspiring to membership, as a place for the membership to meet, and for welcoming newer sandplayers. STA locates national events in varying parts of the country to make more training available to more sandplay students. Together, regional and national training events comprise a wealth of education in Jungian-Kalffian sandplay therapy. Sandplay Therapists of America® (STA) offers support for regional sandplay groups across the US through the Regional Development & Support (RDS) group, part of the Education Committee. Support projects include: Collecting news of regional training events and distributing via email newsletter and including on the STA website. The National Assembly (in non-conference years), to provide opportunities for aspiring members, affordable training for all, and foster and build community. The event is a primary vehicle for applicants and candidates for Certified Sandplay Therapists (CST) and Certified Sandplay Therapist Teachers (CST-T) to present cases, receive mentoring, and move closer [...]

Education & Training Overview

Sandplay Therapists of America® (STA) offers a variety of STA/ISST Certified Sandplay Training® opportunities. We sponsor a national conference in even-numbered years and host the STA Assembly in odd-numbered years, the latter co-hosted with a regional sandplay group. Training opportunities are updated on our website whenever new courses become available. Additional opportunities include sandplay intensives, regional workshops and groups, and case consultation groups throughout the United States. Distance learning courses are identified as such on the event listing page; there are also online case consultation groups as well as Teaching Members who offer individual online consultations. Therapists are encouraged to consult the STA Handbook and review the maximum allowable hours of distance training that are accepted for RSP and CST applications. International training opportunities listed here include courses taught by sandplay teaching members outside the US and conferences sponsored by The International Society for Sandplay Therapists (ISST). For additional international opportunities, see the ISST website. We invite you to browse and explore trainings that best meet your needs, and to contact us with any questions.
