ABSTRACT: In this article the author reviews the range of properties of blue colors, their place in the rainbow, appearance in nature, their movement and effects on human perception, emotion and language. Theoretical examples describe the power of blue in thinking, meditation, in depression and also as limitless imagination. Several forms of blue “oceans” that are spontaneously created in the sand tray are discussed, with clinical examples from two sandplay processes, of a young boy and a fifty-year-old woman. In sandplay, the entire inner surface of the sand tray is to be painted blue, intended to simulate water or sky when the sand is moved aside (Kalff, 2022). A precise hue or intensity of the color blue has not been suggested. Both sand trays are filled halfway with sand, so that in both, part of this large expanse of blue is always visible, whether or not it is deliberately used for sky or water imagery. Blue, as one of the colors that comprise white light, has its own specific physiological and psychological impact on human thought processes and behavior. For artists, each of the six most common blue pigments within the blue family has a distinct aura, and none can substitute for any other. As any blue color will impact on the perceiver and influence the sandplay process, some may be more appropriate for the sand tray than others. The sandplay therapist can choose among several blue pigments whose nuances of hue will imply different associations. The author’s wet sand tray contains a cobalt blue Perspex interior, whose visual presence supports the psychological depth suggested by water. The interior of the dry sand tray is painted with a medium cerulean blue, a powerful color with less depth, that complements the flowing impermanence of dry sand.

ABSTRACT: In diesem Beitrag untersucht die Autorin die Ausdrucksformen und Eigenschaften von blauen Farben, ihren Platz im Regenbogen, ihr Erscheinen in der Natur, ihre Bewegung und Auswirkungen auf die menschliche Wahrnehmung, Emotion und Sprache. Theoretische Beispiele beschreiben die Kraft des Blaus im Denken, in der Meditation, bei Depressionen und auch als unbegrenzte Vorstellungskraft. Verschiedene Formen von blauen “Ozeanen”, die spontan in der Sandkiste entstehen, werden diskutiert, mit klinischen Beispielen aus zwei Sandspielprozessen, einem Jungen und einer fünfzigjährigen Frau. Im Sandspiel wird die gesamte innere Oberfläche der Sandkiste blau bemalt, um Wasser oder Himmel zu simulieren, wenn der Sand beiseitegeschoben wird (Kalff, 2022). Es wurde keine genaue Farbnuance oder Intensität des Blaus vorgeschlagen. Beide Sandkästen sind halb mit Sand gefüllt, so dass in beiden Teilen diese große blaue Fläche immer sichtbar ist, ob sie nun bewusst für Himmel- oder Wasserbilder verwendet wird oder nicht. Für Künstler hat jeder der sechs häufigsten blauen Pigmente in der blauen Familie eine eigene Aura, und keines kann das andere ersetzen. Da jede blaue Farbe auf den Betrachter wirken und den Sandspielprozess beeinflussen wird, können einige für den Sandkasten besser geeignet sein als andere. Der Sandspieltherapeut kann aus verschiedenen blauen Pigmenten wählen, deren Nuancen verschiedene Assoziationen implizieren. Der Sandkasten der Autorin mit nassem Sand enthält ein kobaltblaues “Perspex”-Interieur, dessen visuelle Präsenz die von Wasser suggerierte psychologische Tiefe unterstützt. Se discuten varias formas de “océanos” azules que se crean espontáneamente en la bandeja de arena, con ejemplos clínicos de dos procesos de sandplay, de un niño pequeño y de una mujer de cincuenta años. En el sandplay, toda la superficie interior de la bandeja de arena debe pintarse de azul, con la intención de simular el agua o el cielo (Kalff, 2022). No se ha sugerido un tono o intensidad precisos del color azul. Las bandejas de arena se llenan hasta la mitad con arena, de modo que parte de esta gran extensión de azul siempre es visible, tanto si se utiliza deliberadamente para imágenes de cielo o agua como si no. No sandplay, toda a superfície interna da caixa de areia é pintada de azul, destinada a simular água ou céu quando a areia é movida para o lado (Kalff, 2022). Não foi sugerida uma tonalidade ou intensidade precisa da cor azul. Ambas as caixas de areia são preenchidas até a metade com areia, de modo que em ambas, parte dessa grande extensão azul seja sempre visível, quer seja ou não usada deliberadamente para imagens de céu ou água. O azul, como uma das cores que compõem a luz branca, tem seu próprio impacto fisiológico e psicológico específico nos processos de pensamento humano e comportamento. Para artistas, cada um dos seis pigmentos azuis mais comuns dentro da família do azul tem uma aura distinta, e nenhum pode substituir o outro. Como qualquer cor azul impactará o observador e influenciará o processo de sandplay, algumas podem ser mais apropriadas para a caixa de areia do que outras.
