ABSTRACT: This article describes the psychotherapy of a six to nine-year-old boy who presented with past birth trauma, sensory processing disorder, pronunciation disorder, temper tantrums, low muscle tone and difficulty with peers. He used sandplay throughout his treatment. At the end of each session, rather than leaving behind the scene he had created, he poured water into the tray resulting in figures becoming jumbled in mud– an outer expression of his inner experience. This can be seen as an example of what Fordham described as the deintegration-reintegration process which led not only to constant fluctuations within therapy but also to the development of the ego-Self axis. The author uses mainly Neumann’s stages of child development to highlight the patient’s progress as he gradually overcame his impairments. By the end of treatment the child had become articulate, artistic and more engaged with age-appropriate relationships with family and peers.

ABSTRACT: Dieser Artikel beschreibt die Psychotherapie eines sechs- bis neunjährigen Jungen, der ein Geburtstrauma, eine sensorische Verarbeitungsstörung, eine Aussprachestörung, Wutausbrüche, einen niedrigen Muskeltonus und Schwierigkeiten mit Gleichaltrigen hatte. Am Ende jeder Sitzung ließ er die von ihm geschaffene Szenerie nicht zurück, sondern goss Wasser in das Tablett, was dazu führte, dass die Figuren im Schlamm durcheinandergewirbelt wurden – ein äußerer Ausdruck seiner inneren Erfahrung. Dies kann als Beispiel für den von Fordham beschriebenen Deintegrations-Reintegrationsprozess angesehen werden, der nicht nur zu ständigen Schwankungen innerhalb der Therapie führte, sondern auch zur Entwicklung der Ego-Selbst-Achse. Am Ende der Behandlung war das Kind artikuliert, künstlerisch und engagierter in altersgerechten Beziehungen zu Familie und Gleichaltrigen.

Esto puede verse como un ejemplo de lo que Fordham describió como el proceso de desintegración-reintegración que no sólo conducía a constantes fluctuaciones dentro de la terapia, sino también al desarrollo del eje ego-Self. Al final del tratamiento el niño se había vuelto articulado, artístico y más comprometido con las relaciones apropiadas para su edad con la familia y los compañeros.
