Brief description of the event:
Depth psychological work such as analysis or Sandplay process, if genuine, is by necessity difficult, an often arduous path in pursuit of recovery and healing. Of the gradual advance towards wholeness, the hallmark of individuation, Jung states, “But the right way to wholeness is
made up, unfortunately, of fateful detours and wrong turnings. It is a longissima via (a very long
way), not straight, but snakelike, a path that unites the opposites in the manner of the guiding caduceus, a path whose labyrinthine twists and turns are not lacking in terrors.”
Often confused as synonymous, the paradoxical dyad symbols; maze and labyrinth, perfectly
captures the braid of twists, turns, detours, or obstacles along the way in the course of a Sandplay
process, just as they also capture the flow of movement, progress, or arrival at the center. This
webinar examines the circuitous path of the labyrinth; into the center and back out again, as a
symbolic template for Sandplay process. Embedded within the geometric structure of the
labyrinth is an inherent path of opposites; inward/outward, clockwise/counter-clockwise, mirroring Jung’s notion of the path towards individuation. What differentiates a maze from a labyrinth
structurally, geometrically, and psychologically, will be explained and content will be illustrated
with Sandplay case material.
