Sandplay in Switzerland, A Two-Week Training Intensive
Coming in Summer 2013

This unique, intensive course is for professionals who use Sandplay in their work and for those in training to do so. Join us for an opportunity to study and work in depth with Sandplay, imagery, and your own creative process. Travel to Switzerland, stay in a lovely countryside conference center surrounded by the Swiss Alps, and live for two weeks with international master teachers and a community of like-minded souls.

The program includes case presentations by faculty, soul painting workshops, opportunities for supervision, and body/soul work with dreams, movement, creative expression, and ritual. We will visit the sacred Black Madonna at the nearby cathedral. An optional trip into the mountains to experience the glory of the Swiss Alps is also offered.

The program offers 50 hours toward ISST/STA certification and 50 hours of approved continuing education for MFTs and Social Workers.

Faculty includes Judy Zappacosta, Martin Kalff, Sabine Kalff, and others to be announced. Program Director is Patty Flowers.

Workshops

Sandplay Therapy Institute (St. Paul, MN)

Beginning Spring of 2010
The Sandplay Therapists of America is pleased to announce the opening of the Sandplay Therapy Institute in the Spring of 2010. This is the first time a permanent Institute for the study of sandplay will exist in the United States. The purpose of this Institute is to promote the study of sandplay as taught by Dora Kalff. The goal is to provide a learning environment for in-depth study of sandplay, and an exploration into the intricate workings of the human psyche, with affordability as a key priority.

The core sandplay curriculum will be augmented with coursework in Jungian psychology, mythology, dreamwork, spiritual traditions and symbolic process, and will be integrated with clinical and therapeutic case material of children and adults. Each seminar will be taught by a team of Certified Sandplay Therapists and researchers.

The coursework will be completed over a two year period with four intensive weekends per year (two each fall and two each spring). This training program meets all the coursework requirements for ISST/STA membership.

Where: The first two-year program will be centrally located in St. Paul, Minnesota.

The Elements, the Archetypes and the Self (San Francisco/Bay Area, CA)

The Elements, the Archetypes and the Self (San Francisco/Bay Area, CA) Fall 2011, Winter 2012 and Spring 2012 – 3 weekend retreats TBA, Friday - Sunday

The four elements in nature move in a circular process that we experience in the seasons and phases of the moon. In sandplay archetypal images that reflect the unfolding Self in the individuation process also circle around as we move through the ages and stages of life. Ancient practices, from both East and West, work to bring the four elements into a balance and flow, promoting the healing of the body, mind and spirit. Sandplay, like Navaho sand painting, provides us with such a practice.

Through experiential work, theoretical and sandplay case material we will learn how the elements manifest and transform as the psyche works to create balance and flow. This process of alchemical transformation of the elements forms one of core aspects of sandplay, connecting our present work to ancient healing practices as well as to the practice of alchemy in the 21st century.

This course is intended for therapists who are currently using sandplay in their psychotherapeutic practice, who have had introductory level courses in sandplay, and have experienced a personal sandplay process. The purpose of this course is to deepen clinicians’ psychotherapeutic work by understanding and experiencing how the elements, the archetypes and the Self guide transformation of the psyche in sandplay.

Tuition for three weekends is $350 per weekend plus residential fees TBA. CEU’s available for MFC, LCSW. Psychologists pending. (30 hours for year’s seminar)

Presented by Jungian Analysts and ISST/STA Teaching Members Maria Ellen Chiaia, PhD, JA and Lauren Cunningham, LCSW, JA
