Sandplay Therapy Institute (St. Paul, MN)
Beginning Spring of 2010
The Sandplay Therapists of America is pleased to announce the
opening of the Sandplay Therapy Institute in the Spring of 2010.
This is the first time a permanent Institute for the study of
sandplay will exist in the United States. The purpose of this
Institute is to promote the study of sandplay as taught by
Dora Kalff. The goal is to provide a learning environment for
in-depth study of sandplay,
and an exploration into the intricate workings of the human
psyche, with affordability as a key priority.
The core sandplay curriculum will be augmented with
coursework in Jungian psychology, mythology, dreamwork,
spiritual traditions and symbolic process, and will be
integrated with clinical and therapeutic case material of
children and adults. Each seminar will be taught by a team of
Certified Sandplay Therapists and researchers.
The coursework will be completed over a two year period with
four intensive weekends per year (two each fall and two each
spring). This training program meets all the coursework
requirements for ISST/STA membership.
Where: The first two-year program will be centrally located in
St. Paul, Minnesota.

Alchemical Symbolism Arising in Sandplay and Analytically
Oriented Psychotherapy (San Francisco/Bay Area, CA)
September
2010 to June 2011
Jung has used alchemy and alchemical images to illustrate and
illuminate the transformation of the human spirit. From the middle
ages to today, alchemical symbolism is alive in our imagination.
Knowledge of alchemy enriches our capacity to relate to sandplay
images as it helps us to expand our understanding of sandplay as a
pathway of individuation. In this one year, in-depth training we
will explore alchemical symbolism in alchemical treatises and in
texts such as Mysterium Coniunctionis and then link the
symbolism to what is appearing in sandplay. We will focus on
alchemical images and metaphors and relate them to sandplay case
material that is presented by participants. We will experience the
sandplay images as manifestations of alchemical transformations
occurring in the individual as well and the analytic couple and in
the group as we study them.
This course is intended for therapists who are currently using
sandplay in their psychotherapeutic practice, who have had
introductory level courses in sandplay, and have experienced a
personal sandplay process. The purpose of this course is to deepen
clinicians’ psychotherapeutic work by understanding this non-verbal
modality as an integral part of analytically oriented psychotherapy.
Fee is $125 per meeting. 2nd Saturday of the month, September
2010 to June 2011, 10:00 am – 1:15 pm
CEU’s available for MFC, LCSW, Psychologists pending.
