Workshops

Sandplay Therapy Institute (St. Paul, MN)

Beginning Fall of 2009
The Sandplay Therapists of America is pleased to announce the opening of the Sandplay Therapy Institute in the Fall of 2009. This is the first time a permanent Institute for the study of sandplay will exist in the United States. The purpose of this Institute is to promote the study of sandplay as taught by Dora Kalff. The goal is to provide a learning environment for in-depth study of sandplay, and an exploration into the intricate workings of the human psyche, with affordability as a key priority.

The core sandplay curriculum will be augmented with coursework in Jungian psychology, mythology, dreamwork, spiritual traditions and symbolic process, and will be integrated with clinical and therapeutic case material of children and adults. Each seminar will be taught by a team of Certified Sandplay Therapists and researchers.

The coursework will be completed over a two year period with four intensive weekends per year (two each fall and two each spring). This training program meets all the coursework requirements for ISST/STA membership.

Where: The first two-year program will be centrally located in St. Paul, Minnesota

Sandplay and Analytically Oriented Psychotherapy (San Francisco/Bay Area, CA)

September 2008 to June 2009
One year, in-depth training. Reading of theoretical material applied to case presentations by participants . This course is intended for therapists who are currently using sandplay in their psychotherapeutic practice, who have had introductory level courses in sandplay, and have experienced a personal sandplay process.

The purpose of this course is to deepen clinicians’ psycho-therapeutic work by understanding this non-verbal modality as an integral part of analytically oriented psychotherapy. We are especially interested in relational and intersubjective elements, non-verbal and trauma based images that can be concretely seen in sandtrays created by clients. Topics will include but not be limited to infantile states, the analytic relationship, approach to the image and the transference, interconnection of dreams and sandplay, the numinous and the function of the spiritual in the psyche. All of thee areas will be studied and discussed as experienced in sandplay. Readings will be chosen from analytic and psychoanalytic writers that amplify these topics.
