NATURE PLAY: NATURE AS A SANDBOX

Journal of Sandplay Therapy, Volume 6, Number 1, 1997

KEY WORDS: Nature play, sandbox, nature, play, sensory, experience, outdoor, silence, self.

ABSTRACT: This article reviews nature play, developed by Kaspar Kiepenheuer. This play in nature provides a more conscious reflection on previous childhood experiences. The healing characteristics of the therapist provide the containment, similar to the walls that the sandbox offer. The relationship of trust sets limits of time and place. Each individual has thirty minutes to an hour to be with their own natural collection, the group then gathers collectively and visits each other the scenes, with each nature player describing the scene as they are willing. This time with nature prompts an awareness for the fragility of the earth. NATURE
