LOOKING THROUGH THE SANDPLAY KALEIDOSCOPE: RACISM AND THE LGBTQ PRISM
When: October 3rd and 4th; 11:00 am – 3:30 pm PST
October 3rd – LGBTQ-informed Sandplay: Holding a Compassionate and Safe “Free and Protected Space” for LGBTQ+ client
Facilitator: Carrie Eberhardy, LCSW, RSP
Learning Objectives:
1. Compare key differences between sexual orientation and gender identity, including a brief overview of vocabulary and other helpful information to support increasing and confidence and competence in working with LGBTQ+ clients. (*Suggested optional “pre-workshop homework” includes a video and resource link for more in depth vocabulary definitions and discussions)
2. Apply a cultural humility and social justice lens – utilizing an approach of understanding and compassionate care around various intersections of marginalized communities. We will look at countertransference and ethical issues and how they can impact treatment.
3. Demonstrate 4 ways to increase awareness around “free and protected space” in sandplay with LGBTQ+ clients.
October 4th – Looking through the Sandplay Kaleidoscope: Racism

5. Explain the necessity and rationale of having a diverse sandplay collection inclusive of all colors and races.
