Rocco, Paolo. In Place of Words Volume 9, Number 1, 2000 (Volume IX, Number 1, 2000) KEY WORDS: sandplay therapy, clinical example, field, transference, countertransference. ABSTRACT: This article describes the provision for silence which allowed for the collection of the sand images which became conscious in communication for the child in the healing relationship. This 11-year-old boy had difficulty with reading and writing. He had a preexisting minimal paralysis of the brain causing headaches and confusion of language. It was referred to as “hole in the brain”. Certain symbols take on significance. The wedding, the snake charmer, and the hunter provide the sandplayer with a means of expressing himself. Through the presentation of four sandtrays, the author describes the emergence of separation for individuation, as seen in more control and familiarity in the process, prompting more communication. |
