Ryce-Menuhin, Joel. About Self

This article explains and defends Jung’s belief in a self-theory. Menuhin uses Sartre’s theory of the consciousness of knowing in conjecture to support his defense. His book, Self and Early Childhood, written in 1988, is used to offer explanation from infant observations. He purports that there is a “fourth knowing” beyond Sartre’s “three knowings”, which is a “consciousness in which knowing is not known or transformed to cognitive knowing”. This knowing is the totality-of-self. Menuhin concludes with the conjecture of the emergence of the reviving of the self-theory through the study of its spiritual symbolism. SELF-THEORY
