Oda, Takao. The Mythological Basis of Spontaneous and Simultaneous Healing

Volume XV, Number 2

Keywords: wounding and healing, Japanese mythology, intermediate realm.
Abstract: The author suggests that sandplay therapists may examine and observe the correspondence between the client’s and his or her own emotions and images. This examination facilitates the constellation of the intermediate realm, or alchemical vessel, between client and therapist. In sandplay therapy, the intermediate realm, or therapeutic vessel, may symbolize the ‘inner sandtray’ within the client’s and therapist’s psyches. The client’s wounds, and even those of the therapist, will be contained within the ‘inner sandtray’ and be spontaneously and simultaneously healed. Instead of presenting the recovery processes of individual clients, the author illustrates the ‘wounding and healing’ process of two pairs of deities in Japanese mythology.
