Abstract: The first five trays of a woman’s sandplay process are discussed with reference to typical characteristics of initial trays. The first tray shows the prospective aspect for therapy, the second the current situation. The next three trays together reveal a call to the sandplayer to leave her current restrictive inner situation behind, to dare to cross a threshold and embark on a heroine’s journey of the senses towards the tree of life and the feminine. Major symbols discussed include the the tree, the snake and the bridge both as connector and as threshold.
