Oda, Takao. Therapist’s Meditatio and Therapeutic Relationship

Volume 13, Number 1  (Volume XIII, Number 1, 2004)

KEY WORDS: sandplay therapy, clinical example, anxiety, psychosomatic, irritable colon syndrome, negative mother complex.

ABSTRACT: The therapist’s alchemical meditatio deepens his or her intra-psychic relationship or “transformative counter-transference” and facilitates the client’s healing process. A middleaged-woman was suffering from abandonment feelings by her mother since her childhood; her daughter was suffering from psychosomatic irritable colon syndrome. During sandplay sessions I spontaneously and repeatedly imagined that I was fighting against a wild bull, which represented the destructive mother. The client confronted her outer and inner mothers.
